Geoff Thompson

Chairman

Geoff Thompson is a seasoned healthcare investor/operator with a strong track record of building, managing and growing high performing healthcare companies.

Most recently, he was CEO of Vision Eye Institute Ltd), Australia’s largest provider of ophthalmic services. He led a transformation of VEI that re-engaged doctors and staff, strengthened the Company’s financial underpinnings and re-positioned the Company for growth.

Prior to joining VEI Geoff established LifeHealthcare (LHC) and National Hearing Care (NHC) with 2 business partners and private equity backing. LifeHealthcare is a leading medical equipment & device distributor (listed on the ASX in December 2013). NHC is Australia’s largest hearing services provider (acquired by Amplifon). He was also CFO at the diagnostic imaging company MIA Group and has held a number of senior leadership roles with AMP and CSR. Geoff commenced his career as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse.

Andrew Petering

Chief Executive Officer

Andrew has worked alongside Nexus co-founders Geoff and Scott since inception and was instrumental in establishing the Nexus Hospitals group structure and strategy.

Andrew has been CEO of Nexus Hospitals since August 2014 and brings many years’ experience in private equity and investment banking. This experience has included work across multiple healthcare opportunities and serving on the board of two healthcare companies.

Previously, Andrew was a Managing Director of Wolseley Private Equity and has held executive roles at UBS and Commonwealth Bank with experience in strategy and leadership, organisational development, acquisitions, integration and financial structuring.

Andrew is the author of “In the Driver’s Seat”, an explanatory text on private equity, published in 2013. A member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and The Executive Connection, Andrew holds a BEc from the Australian National University and is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

Andrew is a passionate outdoors enthusiast and enjoys cycling, mountaineering, rock-climbing and sea kayaking.  He also enjoys introducing his three young children to enjoying new adventures.

Scott Bell

Executive Director – Surgeon Engagement
Regional Manager – North

Scott has extensive experience in growing strong healthcare businesses.
With a track record of achieving value for doctor shareholders, Scott is adept at developing healthy surgeon relationships and identifying opportunities for business improvement.

During a broad healthcare career in profitable day hospitals and specialist group practices, Scott has worked with specialist surgeons to bring together top class teams and facilities and deliver outstanding patient care.

Scott has achieved landmark negotiations with private health insurers and suppliers, and has supported a number of specialist surgeons and day hospital operators on strategy and business development.

Prior to its merger with the Australian Society of Ophthalmologists, Scott was a Director of the Independent Ophthalmic Network. He remains involved in supporting and advocating for surgeons and day hospital operators alike.

Leanne Kemp brings over 35 years of nursing and hospital management experience to Nexus Hospitals.
 She has advanced clinical expertise in critical & cardiac care and in the operating theatre environment. Leanne has held numerous senior leadership positions in the private hospital sector, including 10 years as Director of Nursing and Chief Executive Officer of Manningham Day Procedure Centre.

Leanne has as strong interest and operational expertise in the private hospital industry and has served as a Director of the Australian Day Hospitals Association and a member of the National Council of the Australian Private Hospitals Association

Leanne has a passion for establishing and growing hospital services which offer the highest possible standard of care and patient experience. Her career to date has demonstrated that strong commercial outcomes are possible without compromising quality of care through supportive engagement with surgeons and by attracting well trained and highly motivated staff.

Alex Hayley

Chief Financial Officer

Alex has held senior finance and operational positions in a variety of sectors including engineering, shipping, telecommunications and FMCG.
More recently Alex was CFO of a large scale Australian agribusiness in which he played an important role in establishing systems supporting operational management’s business and profit improvement objectives. One of Alex’s focus areas is to use technology to harness information and deliver it in a meaningful way to the people who need it to efficiently and effectively run their businesses.

Alex’s career started in chartered accounting and included 10 years with Ernst and Young in their Melbourne and London offices. Alex was involved in audit and corporate advisory services advising clients in the manufacturing and agribusiness industries.

Alex’s key areas of expertise include development of corporate skills and systems to support an organisation’s achievement of its strategic goals.

Alex is an Associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia.

Ivana Venter

Aquisitions Director

Ivana is supporting the Nexus Management Team in their M&A strategy
She is responsible for acquisitions execution and integration. Ivana is also involved in various operational and commercial projects.

Ivana has over eight years of corporate finance and advisory experience with Deloitte in Australia and Europe working in various aspects of M&A activity, transactional support and accounting. Prior to her role with Nexus, Ivana was part of the Deloitte Corporate Finance team in Sydney advising clients on numerous mid-market and large-cap M&A deals, both from a sell- and buy- side, as well as a number of recent IPO transactions.

Ivana holds Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in International Economics and is a qualified Chartered Accountant.

Rachel Hart

Commercial Director

After starting her career with Ernst & Young in the UK and Australia, Rachel has worked in the healthcare sector for the past twelve years.

After starting her career with Ernst & Young in the UK and Australia, Rachel has worked in the healthcare sector for the past twelve years.

Prior to joining Nexus, Rachel spent the last five years at Vision Eye Institute (ASX:VEI). At VEI Rachel focused on the development of profit- sharing arrangements with surgeons where Rachel earned a strong track record of building healthy commercial arrangements with specialist doctors. Rachel was also responsible for procurement initiatives and a number of other key projects.

Rachel also has significant experience with acquisition and integration of healthcare businesses and was responsible for project-managing multiple acquisitions for LifeHealthcare (ASX:LHC), as well as business restructuring and integration responsibilities as LHC’s Group Commercial Manager. She then helped establish National Hearing Care (NHC) in New Zealand, the first overseas expansion of the NHC group. Previously, Rachel also worked as Group Financial Controller at MIA Group through its merger with I-MED Radiology (part of DCA Group).

Rachel is a qualified Chartered Accountant.

(National Day Surgeries is the hospital group from where Hobart Day Surgery, Tennyson Centre Day Hospital and National Day Surgery – Sydney originated) with co-founder John Masters over 20 years ago.

Through NDS, Geoff has successfully developed nine stand-alone day surgery projects based on a model of doctor co-ownership, a core principle that is strongly aligned with the Nexus model of partnering with doctors. Geoff is MBA qualified and during his career has run divisions of major Australian and US corporations.

Geoff also brings with him a wealth of experience in successful healthcare property development and investment. These skills and experience are invaluable in supporting Nexus with greenfield development projects and other business expansion and partnership opportunities.

John Masters
Business Development Director

John Masters co-founded National Day Surgries with Geoff Schaedel over twenty years ago.

Shifting from a career commencing in education, John entered the day hospitals sector at the early stage of its development and since that time has become one of Australia’s most successful and experienced day hospital operators.

This experience is directly aligned with the Nexus model of partnering with doctors.  As well as establishing day hospital businesses, they have also partnered with surgeons in property development and ownership opportunities. Their skills and experience are invaluable in supporting Nexus with greenfield development projects and other business expansion and partnership opportunities.
