Nexus Hospitals supports Interplast Australia & New Zealand
Interplast sends teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals to provide free life-changing treatment and medical training in developing countries across the Asia Pacific region, including; Bangladesh, Bhutan, Indonesia, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Fiji, and Vanuatu.
In these countries a lack of resources means people with repairable conditions generally can’t afford treatment, and local medical professionals do not have the necessary skills to treat conditions including cleft lip and palate, burns scar contractures, tumours and hand injuries. To have the greatest long-term impact in these countries, Interplast have a strong focus on building capacity through training and skill development and respond to the needs of each individual country.
Many staff and surgeons from Nexus Hospitals have been active Interplast volunteers for several years and we are pleased to be building on this connection, with particular note to Mr James Leong, shareholder and surgeon partner of Nexus Hospitals, who has been volunteering with Interplast for 16 years. Mr Leong has undertaken 15 programs for Interplast, helping to change futures and rebuild lives in Samoa, Indonesia, Philippines, Tonga and Myanmar.
Nexus Hospitals are proud to be supporting Interplast with funding to help support surgical programs to countries across the Asia Pacific.
