Breaking the Cycle of Homelessness: COO Ian Grisold’s Impact through the Vinnies CEO Sleepout
Following his 6th consecutive year participating in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout, Ian Grisold reflects on a transformative experience that goes beyond braving the elements. This year’s event, held at The Timber Yard in Port Melbourne, gathered 250 CEOs and community leaders, collectively raising an impressive $1.5 million to support Australians facing homelessness.
Ian’s commitment to the CEO Sleepout over the past 6 years is truly admirable, raising $21,523 this year alone and contributing over $112,000 since he first joined in 2014, thanks to the generosity and support of friends, family, colleagues and the broader community. His dedication has not only helped fund essential services but has also raised awareness of the pressing issue of homelessness, affecting over 116,000 Australians each night.
This year’s CEO Sleepout saw stories of inspiration shared by community members Mario and Lutfiye, highlighting the critical role organisations like Vinnies Victoria play, supporting people with essential services during their most vulnerable moments. Mario spoke candidly about his journey from homelessness to hope, while Lutfiye bravely recounted her survival of domestic violence and the challenges of securing stable housing.
“The last six years I’ve participated in this event has taught me a lot about the drivers of homelessness”, Ian said. “I was alarmed by the number of young women who are homeless often fleeing domestic violence and older women who may not have the means to secure a permanent home. By spending just one night experiencing a fraction of what they go through, we can gain a deeper understanding and hopefully inspire others to take action as well.”
Looking forward, Ian encourages others to join in this impactful initiative. For more information on how you can support Vinnies and their efforts to combat homelessness, please visit: https://www.ceosleepout.org.au/
