Launch of Nexus Perioperative Graduate Nursing Program
We are excited to announce the launch of our Nexus Perioperative Graduate Nursing Program, the first in Australia dedicated specifically to the day surgery environment.
The program is underpinned by the Nexus Learning Academy framework which supports the further education and training of our team members nationally.
Starting with our first ever Preceptor course in January, a group of our very talented and experienced nurses gathered in Sydney, spending two days under the tutorage of leading healthcare educator Adjunct Associate Professor Jamie Mann-Farrar. Their comprehensive training encompassed what it means to be a great preceptor and participating in interactive workshops.
Our cohort of Preceptors will spend the next twelve months guiding fellow Nexus team members participating in our Perioperative Graduate Program. Participants will be trained in all aspects of perioperative care, including pre-admission, discharge, scrub/scouting, recovery and anaesthetics – all specific to the day surgery environment and drawing on the deep experience within the Nexus talent pool.
Our graduate nurses will be accredited two credit points from this program towards further studies with affiliated tertiary institutions. This is an important component of the ongoing education and training Nexus is providing for our team members as they develop their skills and experience as highly regarded nursing professionals.
We are looking forward to seeing the positive impact our teams have in their new teaching and leadership roles, and the important part they play in developing the next generation of nurses with specialist skills in day surgery techniques.
