State of the art Ophthalmology system installed at Hobart Day Surgery
Nexus Hospitals is proud to announce the installation of a state-of-the-art ophthalmology system at Hobart Day Surgery – the Stellaris Elite® Vision Enhancement System from Bausch and Lomb. This advanced system enables Hobart Day Surgery eye surgeons to perform delicate eye operations with enhanced safety and control, marking a significant milestone in ophthalmic care for the state.
Established in 1996, Hobart Day Surgery is Tasmania’s only standalone day hospital specialising in ophthalmology. It offers a comprehensive range of ophthalmic procedures, including surgeries to treat cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal issues.
The Stellaris Elite system provides safe, flexible, and robust solutions to various challenges in ophthalmic surgery. It combines vitrectomy and phacoemulsification, allowing the team of 12 ophthalmic surgeons at Hobart Day Surgery to perform precise, sight-saving surgeries with a higher degree of control. One of its key features, Adaptive Fluidics™, ensures stable and controlled fluid pressure within the eye, reacting dynamically to changes and minimising stress on delicate eye tissues. Additionally, the system uses ultrasound to break up cataracts, making them easier to remove with sub-millimetre diameter instruments. This method utilises uniquely pulsed waveforms to minimise energy use and reduce potential risks for patients. The technology also includes advanced illumination, providing surgeons with bright xenon illumination specifically designed for small-gauge vitrectomies (down to 29G). Illumination options include illuminated infusion chandeliers, directional laser probes, and bipolar cautery, offering both mid-field and wide-field light pipe illumination.
“Bausch and Lomb are proud to partner with Nexus and Hobart Day Surgery. We look forward to the excellent patient outcomes that are anticipated with the Stellaris Elite system”, commented Bausch and Lomb Representative Cameron McDonald.
“At Hobart Day Surgery, we take pride in offering the latest ophthalmology technology minimising discomfort and stress for patients, enhancing a speedy recovery with minimal disruption to daily living” – Debbie McQueen, Director of Nursing, Hobart Day Surgery.
“The introduction of the Stellaris Elite Vision Enhancement System at Hobart Day Surgery underscores Nexus’ commitment to providing local, world-class healthcare. We are proud to be investing in advanced technology at Hobart Day Surgery and look forward to sharing the benefits it offers to both surgeons and patients.” – Fiona Langley – General Manager Hobart Day Surgery & Southern Region Operations Director.
