Nexus Hospitals Appoints Dr Michael Stanford AM as New Chairman, Succeeding Clinical Professor Leanne Rowe AM
Sydney, 1st July 2023 – Nexus Hospitals (Nexus) proudly announces the appointment of Dr Michael Stanford AM as the new Chairperson, effective 1st July 2023, succeeding Clinical Professor Leanne Rowe AM. Dr Stanford, an accomplished healthcare professional with over three decades of experience, brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.
Dr Stanford’s accomplished career spans over three decades in the healthcare sector. After commencing his professional journey as a medical doctor in Sydney and training at UNSW, Dr Stanford advanced into hospital management and achieved specialist status with the Faculty of Public Health Medicine of the RACP. His experience is underpinned by an MBA from Macquarie University and an extensive tenure in CEO and executive roles at some of Australia’s largest hospital networks, including St John of God Health Care and Australian Hospital Care.
Currently, Dr Stanford holds key positions on the Boards of several prominent organisations including Vital Healthcare Property Trust, Diabetes Australia, and genU. He is also the Board Chair and current President of Diabetes Australia, and a Board member of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
Dr Stanford’s strategic acumen, particularly in areas such as merger and acquisition, organic growth, and major capital developments, aligns with Nexus’ continued growth trajectory. Moreover, his focus on cultivating a strong organisational culture further fortifies our commitment to our people and being the leading provider of private short stay surgical services in Australia.
As we warmly welcome Dr Stanford, we also bid a heartfelt farewell to Clinical Professor Leanne Rowe, our outgoing Chairperson. Professor Rowe has been a driving force at Nexus since 2019, leading us through significant growth and change. Under her guidance, Nexus Hospitals expanded from 15 to 29 hospitals, a milestone that included the recent strategic acquisition of the Montserrat Hospitals group. Her leadership was particularly commendable during the COVID-19 pandemic, where she steered Nexus with stability and resilience. Professor Rowe’s unwavering dedication has shaped Nexus into a healthcare leader, leaving behind a legacy of excellence, growth and people focussed care.
Nexus looks forward to embracing new opportunities under the guidance of Dr Stanford as we continue to build a healthcare system for the future.
