Novel Coronavirus – Patient and Carer Notice for Victorian sites
Updated 29th September 2022
To all Patients and Carers,
Nexus Hospitals is constantly evolving its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are committed to protecting the health and well-being of our patients and their carers, as well as our staff, doctors and contractors involved in our hospital operations.
In line with the Victorian State Government directive, we resumed elective surgery at 100% of our usual capacity on Monday 28th February 2022. We ask that you contact your treating surgeon to find out when your surgery will proceed.
With the emergence of novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), the virus causing the current COVID-19 outbreak, in addition to standard infection control procedures we are taking extra precautions with our admissions process and throughout your stay in our hospitals to ensure we continue to keep you as safe as possible. These precautions include:
- Requiring all patients and carers to register their attendance and if requested on arrival to change into a new disposable mask provided by the hospital.
- Asking all patients to declare if they are suffering from any symptoms consistent with respiratory infection (particularly fever, sore throat, cough).
- Isolation of any patients who display symptoms or may have been exposed to potential infection prior to visiting hospital.
- Implementing social isolating measures as well as asking carers not to congregate in our hospital waiting areas so as to minimise any risk of transmission through casual contact.
- In some cases patients will be directed by the hospital or surgeon to provide a negative test result before undertaking surgery. Instructions regarding how to test will be provided prior to surgery.
It is important to point out that Nexus hospitals do not admit patients requiring medical admission for respiratory infections, and so no known COVID-19 positive patients are accepted at any of our hospitals.
We have also put in place additional support services for our staff and doctors to help them continue to offer the best and safest care to our patients.
We hope you will be understanding of these actions when you visit our facilities and remember that we have taken these steps to ensure we are doing everything we can to keep our patients and their carers, as well as our staff and doctors as safe as possible.
The community response to COVID-19 continues to evolve, and we will ensure that we adapt our protocols to incorporate best practice as information becomes available.
If you have any concerns or would like further information, please contact the Director of Nursing at your relevant hospital (visit our individual hospital pages on this site for contact details).
Thank you for your co-operation and understanding.
Yours faithfully,
Nexus Hospitals Group
