Nexus Achieves Major Milestone in Renewable Energy Use
We are thrilled to announce that as of January this year, 94% of Nexus Hospitals’ electricity usage is now sourced from renewable energy. Our electricity is sourced from wind farms in Bondagora and Collector in NSW, Stockyard Hill in VIC, and Lake Bonney in SA, as well as solar farms in Avonlie, NSW. This transition has not only supported sustainable energy but also provided Nexus with long-term beneficial electricity pricing.
This significant milestone demonstrates our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and contributing to a more sustainable future. We also recognise this is personally important to many of our employees, VMOs, and our management team.
Our dedication to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategies extends beyond energy consumption. We are also actively implementing various initiatives aimed at promoting environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and transparent governance.
Here are a few highlights:
- Reducing our carbon impact: We have replaced single-use plastic kidney dishes with biodegradable alternatives in our procedure packs and are working on other initiatives to minimise the environmental impact of hospital waste.
- Measuring diversion from landfill: We’re introducing full visibility over all our waste streams to measure our diversion from landfill.
- Endorsing ethical practices: We consider modern slavery in all our supplier negotiations and, through our networks, ensure that our suppliers are working towards reducing the risk of modern slavery in their supply chains. Internally, we maintain stringent ethical standards in all our operations, from patient care to employee relations, ensuring transparency and integrity in everything we do.
