R U OK? Day
Dear Nexus colleagues,
September 10th is R U OK? Day. This important initiative reminds us of the role we all play in supporting each other in our workplace. The current disruptions caused by COVID makes the day particularly relevant this year, reminding us to take the time to reflect on how we can make a difference to those around us, understanding that some of us may be in need of greater support.
I am extremely proud of the culture within our hospital group, which brings up daily examples of the genuine care and respect our Nexus team mates show for each other. Many of our colleagues across the country have been separated from their network of family and friends for many months, and this day is a great reminder of how special this culture of mutual support is, and how critically important it can be to those needing a lift.
The theme for this year’s R U OK? Day is There’s more to say after RU OK? This doesn’t require expertise, it just needs us to bring our humanity and genuine care. It’s not always obvious that someone may be in need of a supportive conversation and sometimes we may need to trust our gut instinct and dig a bit deeper. The most important part is that we check in regularly with those around us, and are there to listen when someone does want to talk.
I know that we are all thinking of our Victorian colleagues as Victoria deals with a drawn out period of stricter lockdown restrictions. We want you to know we are thinking of you, and that as the light at the end of the tunnel draws nearer, we share in the hope that life will very soon return to a more normal rhythm.
Remember, if you require support during this time, your manager is there to help – please feel free to contact them as needed. Also remember that our employee assistance program is available 24 hours, 7 days a week. This program is available to all staff as well as their immediate family. This support line is available by phone, or online – please contact your manager for details.
I hope you’re all OK.
Regards
