Short Stay Joint Replacement Surgery – A Sustainable Healthcare Model
It is three years since we performed our first no-gap joint replacement surgery at Vermont Private Hospital, and Nexus is proud to have pioneered this short stay model of care for patients requiring hip or knee replacement in Australia. The program represents true collaboration between doctors, Nexus, Medibank and allied health, all focused on working towards a sustainable healthcare system.
Medibank have recently released the details of an independent analysis of the program, performed by KPMG, concluding that not only does the program remove out of pocket costs and improve patient satisfaction rates, it also reduces the length of time patients spend in hospital and their overall cost of treatment – all whilst maintaining high quality outcomes.
We are delighted to see how this innovative program has grown since we performed the first operation under the pilot program in July 2019, to be adopted by other industry participants and other Nexus hospitals.
Developing new models of care takes dedication and commitment – we are grateful to the doctors and hospital teams who helped make this happen and look forward to expanding this further – both across our national hospital network, and into more specialties in addition to orthopaedics.
